Pub Quizzes- 14:36
Our Geek Discussion topic of this episode is pub quizzes. Spencer walks us through his experience using pub quizzes at his restaurant. He goes into the trials and tribulations of creating a quiz that keeps players coming back. He works with another quiz master to create the quiz for his restaurant. Be sure to listen in to hear the full answers to the questions below:
What type of system does Spencer use for his pub quizzes? At Ooh Cha Cha, Spencer uses a topical question system. They use a color-coded system to organize the questions into different topics. This is to be sure not too many of the same question topics are coming up. Listen in to hear how he does this.
How long is your pub quiz? Spencer runs a two-hour quiz game. He also found that using 15 questions each for three rounds is a perfect length for the game.
What type of questions do you use for the quizzes? Have you ever had an answer to a question on the tip of your tongue, and you just could not think of it. You even refused to look it up on your phone. “No, Google will not help me with this!” Spencer is very conscious about the questions he creates. He talks about the need to write questions that activate memory recall, instead of questions people “just know” like dates and numbers.
How do you make a pub quiz fair? Do you hope to have a static group and create a wide range of questions, or do you plan for a more dynamic group each week? It really depends on your pub quiz. Listen to how Spencer handles this at his pub quiz.
