Who is Matt Montrose? – 3:03

Matt Montrose is the designer behind the ecology-based card game, Ecologies. Matt goes through his background in teaching, biology, and his experience with game design.

Matt Montrose is a biology teacher and amateur nature photographer. His company, Montrose Biology, specializes in gamifying biological concepts for students, educators, and gamers alike. His first card game, Ecologies, has players compete to build food webs in 7 different biomes around the world. Each biome has a different ecology, and gives unique rewards when it is healthy and balanced. Matt describes a time when he learned about natural selection by playing a game in middle school. The two talk about the advantages of gamification for retaining information.
